SPPerry and LVMike's Excellant Adventure 6
Date: 07/16/08
Player: SouthPointPerry
For Rooms: Circus Circus,Excalibur (Live),Luxor,Mandalay Bay,Monte Carlo,

Summary: This is the sixth time Mike and I have ventured out to explore poker rooms. We tried one casino that reminded me of a mall. And four others that comprise the south part of the strip.

Content: I am proud to present the sixth installment of the Excellent Adventure series. Our adventure actually started two days earlier with Mike and I having breakfast at the SouthPoint. We decide on the line up of EA6 (and EA7). At this point we are still going to poker rooms we have not visited on the adventures yet. In future EA's we will revisit some rooms.

Our night starts with your heros arriving at Circus Circus at around 8:15pm. Even though it was an early start for us, it was almost not early enough. They only had one game going, 3-6 with overs. Just one blind. OK action, about half locals and half tourists. The dealers were OK. Cocktails were about average in speed. They recently cancelled their high hand bonuses. I didn't enjoy the experience that much. I lost $70.

I mentioned that we went to a casino that reminded me of a mall. This was it. There are literally 100 little shops. Selling things like t-shirts, junk food, purses, souvineers, tour packages, coffee, etc. There were about 6 or 7 little restaurants similar to a food court. It is a zoo. Kids are running around all over the place. One even walked into the poker room. At least at Chucky Cheese you don't have to worry about some goof slow rolling you.

We left Circus Circus and took Industrial to the Monte Carlo. I had to follow Mike to our next location. Industrial has construction all over the place. But that doesn't stop Mike from driving like he's delivering a pizza. I challenge any of you to try to keep up with him. Oh by the way I am a former professional driver.

We jump into a 2-5 no-limit game. I lose with pocket aces. I am not thrilled. I lose another hand to a two outer. I'm a little heated. I was on tilt for the rest of the session. The monte carlo has 9 tables. One of them has a chair that is right up against the wall. I was stupid enough to pick that chair. Poker fans do not pick this chair if you are planning to play for an hour and a 1/2.

After an hour and a 1/2 Mike and I decided to leave. I lost $270. The dealers are good and the action was good. It has a higher amount of locals than other strip casinos. Mike called it the Stations casino of the strip due to the number of locals. Its a good room. We leave at 1 am.

Next stop the Mandalay Bay valet. We park and walk to the Excaliber. We get in the game at 1:30am. Its a 1-2 nl with a 100 to 300 dollar buy in. This is a good game. A couple of locals, a couple of drunk tourists and a guy with $800 who can't speak english but will call you down with 10 high. Not bet at the pot, he will call you down with nothing.

The dealers are OK. The floor didn't have to make a decision so I didn't get to evaluate them. Cocktails were OK. But the action was the best. Everytime I have been there its been insane games. I'll be back. Now in the interest of FULL disclosure, I did make $714. (In honor of the baseball allstart game at Yankee statium, my win, 714, was the number of HR's the Babe hit!) The win probably was why I am jazzed about the Excaliber.

We then went to the Luxor cafe for breakfast. No pancakes for me. I had the roast Salmon, very good. We arrive at the poker room at 3:20 am. Now this room actually doesn't count. The reason being, it is a temporary location while they are getting their new room ready. Short stay. Good action, good dealers, pretty good competition. But until the new room is done, I can't give you a real review. In the old room about 4 years ago, EVIL worked there. So I have some fond memories. When they open the new room we'll make time to go back. I lost $20.

At 4:45 we leave and go to the Mandalay Bay. I have played there a number of times. Its always been great action. The action at 5am was three no limit games and one 2-4 limit hold'em game. Four games on a Tuesday morning, pretty good. The dealers are very good, and the room is very comfortable. The deli is great if you play there during the day. I like the Mandalay Bay and have enjoyed my time there. I won $35

Again for full disclosure, a number of their dealers play at the Point. They are good customers. But that doesn't change the fact that I really enjoy the Mandalay when ever I play there or just go for dinner or a show. Great casino.

Overall I had a great excellant adventure. While I have played at almost all of these casinos, it was fun to hit them again. I will be back to the Mandalay, Excaliber, the Luxor and even though I lost, I probably will go back to the Monte Carlo. This adventure should be remembered for something I wrote on this sight a number of months ago. THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION YOU WILL MAKE IN POKER IS: G A M E S E L E C T I O N !!!!
Make sure you choose a loose game where people don't know how to play. Thats the best way to build your bankroll.

See you later.

Perry
