It’s now located near the main entrance to the casino, in the same space that the Kabuki lounge used to occupy. The poker room still isn’t much to look at. The general atmosphere in the poker room matches the atmosphere of the rest of the Imperial Palace casino – smoky, loud, dark, and dull – it’s like a casino stuck in 1978. The performance stage and bar from the former Kabuki lounge are still located inside the poker room, but don’t expect to see any live entertainment here – unless you count the laughs you’ll get from the terrible players that will consistently suck out on you. There are at least a few more televisions now, including a much larger big-screen. But these aren’t the high-definition plasma screen televisions found at the more modern Las Vegas poker rooms. Remember – it’s still 1978 here. The poker tables at the Imperial Palace poker room are huge. They’re some of the largest poker tables in Las Vegas. They are covered with Wild-West mountain landscapes and giant Imperial Palace logos. Unfortunately the poker tables do not have drink holders. There are lots of roller-trays scattered throughout the poker room that players can pull up to set drinks on if they like. The poker chairs are standard style poker chairs covered in black cloth. Nothing fancy, but comfortable enough. The Imperial Palace poker room definitely won’t win any awards for high quality design or furnishings. But it is at least a semi-real “room” with gigantic poker tables and enough space that players won’t feel cramped. Competition Rating: 5 These players are horrible! The Imperial Palace poker room consistently has the easiest competition I have ever played against. In fact, the players are so bad that it has been tough for me to win there. The players will call anything, and it's common for every single person to be in the pot. It's tough for hands like pocket jacks to hold up in a multi-way pot with 10 players. When I raise pre-flop, nobody folds. The Imperial Palace hosts the kind of game that is perfect for a new to average player. However, when you have a better understanding of the game, you will out-think yourself and lose to the crazy beginner players that the Imperial Palace attracts. The Imperial Palace poker room is a great place for a beginner because the stakes are low and the competition is easy. Dealer Rating: 3 The Imperial Palace dealers have improved since the poker room opened. Although many of them are young and inexperienced they generally have good attitudes and try to do a good job. Cocktail Rating: 3 The waitresses are definitely above average, and the service is quick. Now that the poker room is downstairs, drinks seem to come more quickly than ever. On my most recent visit I was averaging a new drink every 5 to 10 minutes. That’s very respectable. Most of the IP waitresses are also very pretty. The cocktail waitresses are actually called "Palace Princesses", and they IP enjoys a reputation for hiring very good looking women. However, this may change now that Harrah’s owns the property. Formerly, Imperial Palace was privately owned, and could probably be more selective about who it hires. Usually there is only one cocktail waitress working the poker room, but when most of the tables of filled up, there are may be two waitresses. There is a bar that's not too far from the tables, so the drinks tend to arrive fast. Management Rating: 3 Management at the Imperial Palace poker room is respectable, and has improved since the poker room opened. The management desk is tucked away near the rear of the poker room, but it is mostly used for cash-outs. At least one or two staff members stand near the entrance to the poker room to greet new players and manage the list. They seem to do a pretty good job with this system, and they are very friendly. There is no computerized list-management system. Comps Rating: 5 The Imperial Palace poker room offers players the most generous hourly comps in the city. All players earn $2 per hour of play, which goes directly onto the Harrah's Total Rewards card. These comps can be used at any Harrahs property for food and beverage as well as in the gift shops. Because the comp goes directly to the players card, there is no paper required to redeem. The earned comps are tacked on the cards at the table, and can be applied to the hotel bill as well. The IP offers $100 for Aces cracked and $50 for Kings cracked in the morning hours, and fresh made cookies are brought out for players on every shift. The IP is part of the Mega Beat Bad Beat Jackpot program, which a few other Harrahs properties paritcipate in. Also, if a player gets quads or better (using both hole cards) they get to spin a jackpot wheel where various dollar amounts are given out, including spaces for 2x and 3x. Though they do not offer a poker room rate, the dollars earned per hour easily make this room the most generous room in the city for poker player comps. Imperial Palace Poker Room News 3/6 Mixed Game spread every Sunday at Imperial Palace Date: 08/05/08 Summary:For the past 12 weeks and counting, LasVegasMichael has been hosting a 3/6 Mixed Game every Sunday night at 7PM at the poker room at Imperial Palace. The game has a reserved table and a reduced rake. Imperial Palace Poker Room Review Las Vegas Tournament Update Date: 03/19/06 Summary:Harrah’s bought the Imperial Palace a few months ago, and management moved the poker room downstairs near the main entrance to the casino. The new location may be a slight improvement, drawing even more bad players, but the comps are not nearly as good as they used to be. |
