If you haven’t been to the Cannery Poker room in North Las Vegas recently you’ll be shocked to see that some changes have taken place. The Cannery Casino recently expanded and the Cannery poker room has been relocated. It may be a tad confusing to find the poker room at the Cannery when you first enter the casino as it has been moved away from the casino floor. I found the Cannery Poker room down a hall on the right hand side of the casino that leads to the new Galaxy Movie Theatres. This is the major downside to the Poker Room at Cannery because it is off the beaten path and the walk-by traffic is minimal at best. You will not get a lot of drop in tourists or visitors unless they are here specifically to play poker. When walking down this hall, the poker room is on the immediate right side followed by the sports book and then the movie theatres anchor the end of the hall. There is an Italian restaurant under construction directly across from the poker room and this should create more walk through traffic. The walk from the parking garage is about two minutes at most once you are able to find the room.
The Cannery advertised the new poker room would occupy 3000 sq ft on the casino floor and hold 15 brand new poker tables. Some slight adjustments were made to these plans because the Cannery poker room actually has only 12 tables. When arriving at the Cannery poker room you will notice that the room has an abundant amount of space and ceiling height. There is a waist high rail that runs across the entire front of the poker room with the exception of the entrance and cashier’s cage on the extreme right side. The room is decorated in a soft navy color that is not distracting to the players whatsoever. It’s quite comfortable. The carpet is your standard casino carpet with the busy designs to keep you from looking down and focusing on the task at hand, the gambling. I found the three murals that were hung on the upper section of the wall to be somewhat amusing and a nice decoration to the room. The floor manager informed me that one or two more murals would be hung to fill in some of the dead space around the back side of the room. The Cannery invested in six nice 40”+ widescreen plasma TVs that surrounds the room on the walls. These TVs are easily viewable from basically every seat in the poker room and all of them are devoted to showing the game of the day or other games upon request. The most surprising thing about the TVs is that the sound from the main game TV is piped through the speakers in the Cannery poker room so you may actually hear the game you are watching, unlike most poker rooms where you have to deal with close captioning and bad casino music.
The poker room at Cannery is a big 3000 sq ft in size and I find this to be a good thing since the room does not look overcrowded, nor does it look empty. This seems to be the perfect mix of space and tables. The players and dealers have adequate room to move around and are not bumping into each other at all. Cannery management also added a waiting area in the back right corner of the room. There is a very comfortable brown leather couch and two more brown leather chairs. A coffee table with all sorts of magazines is in the center of this area. I was informed that the original plan was to provide a smoking lounge but that idea was canned because the players may go out into the hallway and smoke on the rail if they chose to do so. One of the nicest amenities is that the restrooms are located at the beginning of this hallway and are a very close walk from the Cannery poker room
The Cannery purchased all new poker tables but the chairs are of the same average quality you will find at other Las Vegas poker rooms such as Palace Station, The Orleans, and other local poker rooms. Cushions for the players are available near the lounge area in the back of the room. There are no auto shufflers to be found in the Cannery poker room, nor are there betting lines on the poker tables. There are plastic drink holders available to the players because there are no built in drink holders at the poker tables.
Overall, the Poker Room at Cannery is a very comfortable and fun room to play in. You’ll have to take the good with the bad in the Cannery poker room and just enjoy yourself.

You will most likely run into 95% local players at the Cannery Poker Room. This is not a bad thing as most of them are there to socialize and play some poker for recreation. There is a big mix in ages and skill levels of the players. On my most recent trip to the Cannery poker room, I ran into several loose aggressive players that had zero clue what they were doing. The players in the Holdem games seemed a slight bit better than the players in the Omaha games. You should find lots of calling stations in both types of games in this poker room with very few that bluff or value bet. I never saw one argument and all the players I interacted with were either quiet or friendly. As I said, the players are at the Cannery poker room to just play a little poker and relax.
Dealer Rating: 4
The Cannery Poker Room employs excellent dealers. The dealers here were all very knowledgeable about the games they are dealing and quite friendly without talking too much. Most of the dealers were quite quick with their game pace and kept the game moving when people weren’t sure whose turn it was. If there was ever a question, the dealers would immediately call for the floor and get it taken care of. Overall, I wish more poker rooms in Las Vegas would employ dealers as well trained as the dealers at the Cannery poker room. They are some of my favorite dealers in the Las Vegas area. Props to Cannery management and their hiring/screening processes.
Cocktail Rating: 3
The cocktail servers that work in the Cannery Poker Room were beautiful women, mostly in their mid 30s to mid 40s. In the early evening, the service was quite slow with about eight poker tables running. The later it got into the night, the faster the service became and the ladies were coming around every 15 minutes or so. If you want quick service, play early in the day or late in the evening, never around peak time of the day. The servers were very pleasant and the drinks were adequate. Unfortunately, no top shelf/higher end liquor is available in the Poker Room.
Management Rating: 3
A major highlight to this room was the swing shift manager that was on duty the last time I visited the Cannery poker room. This gentleman has 30 years of poker experience, has a great personality, and is very accommodating to the players. He was more than willing to go out and find players to help start up new games such as Omaha and No Limit Holdem if there were a few players on the lists for these games. I was asked for my players card upon getting seated for the game and he picked up my name from the card and continued to use it for the rest of the night. That is just one example of great service. Any questions that I asked, he was able to answer promptly and with 100% accuracy.
The only downsides are that the poker room at Cannery uses the paper list system and is not visible from anywhere in the poker room without asking to see it. Also, players have to go to the opposite side of the casino to get a players card. They cannot print the cards in the poker room.

There are lots of different things going on at the Cannery Poker Room in terms of jackpot offerings, dollars per hour, and complimentary gift offerings.
On to the High Hand Jackpots. These jackpots vary by game time from Holdem to Omaha Hi/Lo. The Holdem jackpots start at $20 and increase $20/day until the jackpot hits or until it’s capped at $599. These jackpots are for all hands of 4-of a kind or better with both cards in your hand (kickers don’t play). Once a high hand has been hit, it comes off the board for the day and no more jackpots will be awarded for that hand. $1 is taken on each $20 pot size to fund this jackpot.
The jackpots ot Omaha Hi/Lo games are slightly different. The jackpot for Omaha hi/lo is based on the highest hand per day. The jackpot starts at $0 and moves up $20/hour with a five hour ($100) cap if the game runs for a full five hours. The time period is 10:30am – 10:30am. At 11:00am, the highest hand of the previous 24 hours will win the jackpot of up to $100. A separate rake is taken for this jackpot. 1 is taken on each $20 pot size to fund this jackpot.
The Cannery poker room also gives away comp dollars for each hour played.. With a Cannery Players card, players earn $1/hour for live cash game play in the poker room with no cap that I am aware of. Also, I was dealt a four of a kind in Omaha Hi/Lo and received a very nice Hawaiian shirt from the Player’s Club. The shirt is very comfortable and well made, not the cheap $5 variety you find at the strip souvenir shops. The giveaway promotions change each month.
