Smoking Allowed: No Poker Room Rate: No Editor's Review - O'Shea's Poker Room Total Rating: 2.20 Room Quality Rating: 1 **Last Updated: 12/29/08** The O’Sheas poker room is easily the lowest quality card room in Las Vegas with regards to room aesthetics, décor, ambient lighting, and overall amenities. The tournament room is a significant step up from the cash game area due to the tournament room being an actual poker room alcove versus a couple tables literally inches from the Strip sidewalk. However, when combining the poker rooms, and largely judging the cash side as the main driving force behind this review, the room quality will have to stick with a 1 out of 5. Make no mistake, the O’Sheas poker room is a thoroughly enjoyable place to play cards. In fact, it might just be the MOST FUN card room in all of Las Vegas. When your card tables are literally on the Strip sidewalk (center Strip, mind you), it is impossible not to enjoy yourself in the casual party atmosphere that surrounds. The only game that consistently spreads is 1-5 Spread Limit Hold’em, which goes along with the party like atmosphere of the entire casino. Aesthetically, the cash game area is simply a few stud tables set up directly in the front of the casino, along the sidewalk. There are no walls or frills whatsoever. The rules are posted on a bar wall, and the chairs are the lowest quality possible. There are, of course, no autoshufflers, no side tables, or anything else resembling proper poker amenities, but when you see this room, you expect nothing more then what you see. The tournament room is an actual room (actually it is an alcove alongside the main casino pit), and is furnished more like a proper small card room. However, for exposure purposes, O’Sheas chooses to have cash games on the sidewalk, and tournaments in the proper room. Overall, no one really expects O’Sheas to have a high quality room, and they most certainly do not, so the expectation is met. However, the room caters to a very specific clientele (low end tourists looking for a good, cheap time) and in this regard, this room is thoroughly meeting the needs of its customers in a perfect way. Competition Rating: 5 Anyone that sits down at O’Sheas hoping for a serious game of cards will be sorely disappointed. The players here are playing strictly for fun and entertainment. The competition level of O’Sheas is nearly impossible to rate as no one sitting down is going to play well, even if they are serious big time pros. It is not a serious environment, thus the players are not serious threats to anyone. The majority of players at O’Sheas have never played before or have only played in home games or in the internet (in play money games). The floor frowns on players that appear to be attempting to take the game seriously. The atmosphere and environment lends itself to the worst possible plays and moves imaginable in a poker game. Good competition does not exist at O’Sheas, and with the game that is mostly spread (1-5 Spread), the god competition will generally stay away. Dealer Rating: 3 The dealers at the O’Sheas poker room have to put up with a LOT of debaucherous players, and they do so without hesitation. It is a rumor that the dealers at O’Sheas are sent there for punishment from Flamingo. This may or may not be true, but it would make sense. The dealers all appear to be mechanically sound, and most seem to bring a level of entertainment and personality to match the atmosphere of the property. They very loosely enforce etiquette and rules. This is engrained into the staff based on the room that they are working with. This is an element of distaste for this reviewer, but given the modus operendi of the entire casino, significant leeway must be granted. Cocktail Rating: 2 The cocktails service at O’Sheas varies greatly by shift. There is a bar that is located only a foot away from the poker tables, but this does not always mean that drinks are lightening fast. No premium cocktails are available, nor are any energy drinks served. The speed is generally quicker on dayshift and graveyard then it is on swing shift, but this can vary. The servers are generally attractive, but this can also vary greatly by shift. Overall, the drink services at O’Sheas compliment the poker room quite well. Not much is expected, thus the service and drink quality matches the expectation. Management Rating: 1 It is obvious that the O’Sheas poker room is managed very loosely by the casino and is not taken very seriously by anyone (staff, customers, or senior management). Very little was invested to build this poker room, and even less is spent to maintain it. There is no technology used to maintain the games or the player’s comps, nor are there properly organized methods of controlling the cash games versus the tournaments. Often, the dealers in the box are running the room (at least it appears this way), and players walking in, are not sure who to talk to in order to get a seat. Also, the room seems to go out of its way to discourage “serious” players from sitting in the game. This reviewer happened to be walking by O’Sheas one day and decided to play a few rounds in the poker live game. I happened to have my iPod in my hand, and the manager took a look at my iPod, and said “You know that we’re here to have fun.” He said this with a rather serious stare, insinuating that I would bring down the “fun level” by sitting in the game. It was an interesting way to handle a new player, and this floorman really personified the overall lack of decorum that this entire casino seems to exude. Comps Rating: 3 O’Sheas poker room gives its players $1 per hour on their Harrahs Total Rewards players’ cards. This earned comp is not capped and the comps can be redeemed at any Harrahs property, as the comps go directly on the card. O’Sheas also offers flat payouts for high hand jackpots. No other major frills are included in this room. No poker room rate is available, nor are there any other special promotions or frills. Overall the comp rate is standard for all Harrahs properties, minus the extras that are often found at neighboring properties. O'Shea's Poker Room News O'Sheas poker room Editor Review is now posted!
