**Last Updated: 10/30/08**
The Tuscany Hotel and Casino is a rather little known property, located off the Strip, on Flamingo road, west of Las Vegas Blvd. The all suite hotel casino caters to families, budget minded tourists, and locals, with a poker room that serves the general Tuscany crowd quite well.
The poker room at Tuscany is an actual room, in what was once a small restaurant. The former bar area is now the poker manager’s podium and poker cashier. The room has 5 tables, none of which have auto shufflers, and the chairs are non swivel adjustable standard chairs.
Overall, this is a very boring poker venue that offers little in the way of frills other than a high hand jackpot wheel, and a weekly freeroll.
Though the room apparently has a small niche of locals that come out for its very low buy in tournaments and to play low limit cash games in order to qualify for the freeroll, the room itself is not very inviting, but is still a comfortable place to play. The staff is quite friendly, and welcoming, and adds to the otherwise stale atmosphere.
Aesthetically, the room is spaced out well; allowing significant room between the tables, and the felt on the tables is clean and tight. All tables have cup holders, and the poker room is easy to find, and located fairly close to the restrooms and to parking.
Competition Rating: 3
The Tuscany poker room caters almost exclusively to locals and budget minded families. They offer a very low buy in tournament ($22) that attracts a low rolling consortium of locals and those wanting to gamble within a fixed budget. This crowd is often rather tight with their money in the cash games, and few large posts are seen, in the limit as well as NL games.
Their usual cash game is 3/6 Limit Hold’em as well as 1/2NL Hold’em (which is not necessarily spread every day). The competition level is weak, and the games are easily exploitable due to the weak tight nature of the players that the room attracts.
Dealer Rating: 3
The dealers at the Tuscany poker room do their job well for the most part, but are rather slow in getting out hands, which is an issue since the room lacks automatic shufflers. Their game control is reasonable, and their dealing mechanics are average.
With regard to personalities, the staff is very friendly, and the dealers are no exception. Welcoming from the moment one enters the room, the Tuscany dealing staff seems to really appreciate the players and greet all players warmly. Though a few take this a little far with talking a bit too much while dealing, the players seem to appreciate the casual banter.
Cocktail Rating: 3
The cocktail service at the Tuscany Poker Room is average on all levels. The speed is neither quick nor slow, and the staff is average as far as attractiveness and appeal. The beverages offered to the poker room are not very impressive, pretty much limited to standard well drinks and frozen drinks. Red Bull and other energy drinks are not offered, nor are any top shelf selections.
The cocktail servers are attentive to the requests and needs of the players, though, and the drinks served are as ordered. When it comes to cocktails, the room is average on all levels.
Management Rating: 3
The management of the Tuscany poker room is slightly above average. The list is tracked on paper and pen, and the management staff is very friendly and willing to go out of their way to find players that are on the list. Also, they are very engaging when it comes to conversation, and are willing to discuss at length anything poker related or about their room. They advertise that they are a very friendly poker venue, and the management seems to go out of their way to prove that any chance they get.
The room management itself is a little lacking as far as technology and maintenance, as the casino did not invest in any sort of player tracking technology or list management, however being that the room is very small and really only has the tournament and maybe two cash games going at any given time, the need for technology is minimalized.
The room is a very strong user of prop players (casino employees playing when on the clock to keep games alive). When a new player enters the room, often the floor staff will pick up his own chips off the table so the walk in patron can play. This is also true of the dealing staff that are often encouraged to play when on and off the clock to keep the few games they do have alive and running.
Comps Rating: 4
The Tuscany poker room offers $1 per hour in comps on the players’ card, and also offers high hand jackpots as well as a weekly freeroll.
The freeroll is what drives most of their cash game action as well as the general buzz of the poker room, especially with the locals. Their weekly freeroll requires 10 hours of play, and additional play gives more chips at the start of the tournament.
The room does not offer a poker room rate or special comp promotions as of this writing.
