Poker Room Rate: No Editor's Review - Orleans Poker Room Total Rating: 3.55 Room Quality Rating: 4 The Orleans poker room is one of the largest card rooms in Vegas. It is an above-average card room. It is clean and organized, but it's not on par with the high end rooms like Bellagio or Mirage in terms of atmosphere. One thing that is particularly nice about the Orleans poker room is that there are usually 2 or 3 clean-up people walking around the room at all times. These are not cocktail waitresses. They are people who just clean up after people -- picking up empty drinks, chip racks, and papers. They also clean all the time. These people are responsible for making sure the poker room is always in top condition, and it's really because of them that I rate the room quality above average. There are small 25 inch televisions embedded in the walls around the perimeter of the poker room, but these are not as impressive as the flat screens or huge projection tv's at poker rooms like Mirage or Excalibur. The Orleans poker room is within a few feet from a Subway restaurant, which is very convenient when you realize you've been playing 7 hours straight without any food. The actual poker tables however are not my favorite. They have a vinyl/plastic top that seems super cheap. The tables also have an unusual slant around the exterior which causes my chip stack to lean over and fall all the time. Competition Rating: 2 The competition at the Orleans is tougher than other Las Vegas poker rooms because the room attracts more locals than tourists. This does not mean that local players are any tougher to beat than tourists, it just means that at the Orleans you're less likely to sit down at a table with a drunk tourist or totally novice player who consistently dumps money into the table. In my experience the players are quite decent, and surprisingly decent at the lower limits (2/4, 4/8). Dealer Rating: 2 I have not been impressed with the Orleans dealers. In my experience, the dealers have just not been very friendly. Part of the fun about playing poker is the entertainment value, especially at the low limits. I like dealers with personalities. I like to be entertained. The dealers at the Orleans just sit there and deal. They never seem like they're having a good time. At least dealers at other poker rooms can fake it, and generally have a good attitide about their jobs. Some people may like dealers that just deal and don't speak. But in my book, this is a strike. Cocktail Rating: 5 Cocktail service is VERY fast, and the cocktail waitresses are quite sexy. The Orleans has high standards when it comes to hiring cocktail waitresses. These women are above average looking, and they wear very revealing costumes, which adds to the package. The great thing is that they also serve drinks FAST. I usually have an opportunity to place an order within 5-10 minutes of sitting down at a table, and after the order is placed I typically get my drink within 5 minutes. The waitresses usually come by to take orders every 10 to 15 minutes, which is faster than most poker rooms. Management Rating: 5 The Orleans poker room is one of the most organized card rooms in Vegas. It has television screens behind the management desk that display the player lists for each game. This makes it easy for players waiting for a table to see how many names are ahead of them, and it decreases the congestion around the desk because people don't have to constantly be asking the poker room manager where they are on the list. More Vegas poker rooms should adopt this type of list display. Comps Rating: 3 - The Orleans offers a player card that pays players $1.25 per hour for the first four hours, then $.50 cents per hour for the next 8 hours. So, players can earn a maximum of $9 per day in comp credit (if they play for 12 hours - Lord help you if you play for 12 hours!). The player card is very simple to sign-up for. Unlike most player cards you don't have to give your driver's license or a bunch of personal information. All they need is your name. Cards are prints on the spot, so if you play at the Orleans be sure to ask for yours. The comp points are good anywhere in the Orleans, and they are especially useful at the Subway restaurant a few feet from the poker room. - Bad beat jackpot: The Orleans also offers a bad beat jackpot. It usually requires four of a kind beat by another four of a kind or better. However, when the jackpot gets really high (around $70k), then the management reduces the requirement to Aces full of 10's beat by four of a kind or better. The management is also surveying players to see if there is enough demand to offer the No Limit game 7 days per week. |
