El Cortez Player Room Review
had fun, my wife won some money and we'd play there again
09/03/08, Player: cabopc
Total Rating: 4.10
Room Quality Rating: 4
Room Quality Description: The poker room is in a separate area but it's not walled in. It invites walk-by traffic. There are 3 tables although it looked like only 2 of the tables get used very often. It's a little run down (as is the whole casino) but the tables and chairs were comfortable. The poker area was very quiet, which was a pleasant change from some of the other casinos we were and depending on where you are sitting you might have a good view of the casino. We plan on playing there again.
Competition Rating: 4
Competition Description: Being a newbie I'm probably not a very good judge of competition but my wife is a worse player than me and won money by simply playing tight. Also, her youthfulness and attractiveness may have caused the other players to not take her seriously. It was an older crowd and most of the people playing were regulars but they appeared to be mainly out to occupy some time and have fun. We played Hold'em with a 1-3-6 spread limit with a single $1 blind. The play was extremely tight.
Dealer Rating: 4
Dealer Description: We had 3 different dealers and they were all tolerant and mostly pleasant. None of them were particularly lively but I didn't have any problems with them. None of them made any mistakes.
Cocktail Rating: 4
Cocktail Description: I was able to get drinks almost as frequently as I wanted them. Mixed drinks were of the usual watered-down weak type found for free in most Vegas casinos.
Management Rating: 5
Management Description: The manager was very prompt, helpful, friendly, and inviting. A player list was not necessary as there was always an open seat when we played.
Comps Rating: 4
Comps Description: free drinks when playing (of course), they had a high hand jackpot
