Caesars Palace Player Room Review

Very Poor Management
07/20/08, Player: dr diet

Total Rating: 2.00

Room Quality Rating: 2
Room Quality Description: I am a former poker dealer at Ceasars Palace. Ceasars Palace poker room is run by Jim Pedulla a man that has played poker one time in his life and never worked in or been around poker ever before. When he took over the room the first thing he did was take call beverages away from the poker room so any booze you drink is the cheapest booze possible. I guess he forgot that poker players pay for those. The second thing he did is only pay out thirty percent of the one dollar high hand drop to high hands, the rest of it goes to fund freeroll tournaments. 99% of the people who win high hands will not play in the freeroll so everyone that wins a high hand is getting 30% of what they really should recieve. Jim Pedulla does not care about poker he cares about taking advatage of the players and the staff to make as much money as possible. Now I'm a capitalist and all about making money but when you continue to exploit how much you can take from people it only take's so long tell people start to react to it. This is a fellow consumer and poker lover saying don't let these new corprate poker room managers that know nothing about the game and are only concerned with money take over what we love. There are way to many poker rooms in Vegas where you can get anything you want promptly and have experienced people serve you. There are also way too many places that offer actual value high hands and freerolls were people have earned their way in. By going to this room your cutting yourself short of what you deserve.

Competition Rating: 3
Competition Description: The play is average.

Dealer Rating: 4
Dealer Description: These guys keep everything going.

Cocktail Rating: 1
Cocktail Description: The cocktail watress should be serving you milk and cookies because they're grandma's. They are at least three time's slower than any other casino. Probably because the mean age is 55. Also if you plan on getting a drink or food service plan on waiting a very long time. Half of my day as a poker dealer there was listening to people complaining about where's my drink or where's my food and then me saying something to a floor guy then the floor guy lieing to the player about doing something about it and then not doing anything about it. I always heard great things about the message ladies it's like they're the only one's in there doing things the right way. It's too bad because there is some great potetial in management but Jim Pedulla has the final say and as long as that continues your going to have a room that runs like a wal mart and not a poker room. He's taking all the fun out of the game it's just big and boring, the staff is unhappy with him and it reflects in the service provided. I've never worked in a situation where 90% of the staff is disgusted with the way things are run and present him with good idea's that are immediately shot down because he's trying to run the place like wal mart. But a wal mart that doesn't care about it's customer's.

Management Rating: 1
Management Description: The worst thing Jim Pedulla has done is promote people who have absolutely no poker experience to floor supervisors because they blindly do what he say's and run around over working. He seems to believe that if your running around working hard to figure things out because you don't know what you're doing then you're the right person for the job. When all of the previous dealer coordinators and floor people could get the same amount of work done with half the effort because they where seasoned poker employee's and just knew what they were doing. Now when I say inexperienced, I mean it, can you immagine floor guys running around that couldn't handle an early burn and turn. It was to the point where I wasn't calling for "floor" I was calling for "Chris Warner". I seriously didn't want any floor guy I would yell for the specific floor guy I wanted because I couldn't trust anyone else to make the right call. And if your floor guys don't properly back you up and do the right thing then you as a dealer look stupid and your tips suffer and I'm not worried about the tips part as much as it just pisses me off that an idiot made me look stupid.

Comps Rating: 1
Comps Description: Also the comp system is completely shady especailly during freerolls. I know for a fact how easy it is to take adavatage of the your swipe in swipe out accumulation. At least fifty percent of the field did not legitamately earn their hours into the freeroll tournament. You'll have players come in sit down for a half an hour swipe in thier rewards cards then leave the casino come back in fifteen hours later sit down play for a half an hour then swipe out. So you get 16 hours of play time for one hours worth of play and this happened regularly with noone doing anything about it. The extra boards dealers were asked to board op periodically and I witnessed this happen time and time again when I took a few cases to management that I knew were not ligitamate nothing was done about it. I actually think you should probably take advantage of that if your a freeroll player. I'ts also way too easy for employee's to hook up their friends with hours and get them into the freeroll. Who know's how many players get in like that, even though I hate to say it, I know it's alot. But when you actually earn your way into a Ceasar's Palace freeroll know that 5 of the players at your table truely are playing for free. Even though you aren't.
