Excalibur (Live) Player Room Review
Low Rolling Fun
07/19/08, Player: chuck_mingus
Total Rating: 3.30
Room Quality Rating: 3
Room Quality Description: Older tables with some wear. Some with autoshufflers, some without. Brand new chairs that were pretty comfortable with springy backs. The room is just an area in the middle of the casino partitioned off by a half wall, so lots of ambient noise and smoke. Plenty of tvs up high. Close to the restrooms. Very casual, unpretentious, comfortable feel overall - kinda like an old, mildly funky pair of sneakers. Definitely geared towards novice, low-roller tourist types (like me!)
Competition Rating: 5
Competition Description: Played 2/4 limit in two separate 3 hour sessions. Many players (myself included) playing their first casino poker. Very loose and passive, which led to some suckouts but also meant there were always people willing to pay off your big hands. Most people were there just to have fun, which kept the tables pretty chatty and friendly.
Dealer Rating: 3
Dealer Description: No dealer errors in my 6 hours. All were helpful correcting various new player errors and misunderstandings in a gentle and efficient manner. Most were very friendly, and none were jerks. One or two were chatty enough that it slowed the game down just a bit, but not too bad.
Cocktail Rating: 3
Cocktail Description: Waitresses were all friendly. Service speed varied wildly and seemingly randomly. Basic but decent drink selection. Nobody I'd call hot, but if you're looking to bird dog in Vegas there's plenty of better options than a poker room anyhow.
Management Rating: 3
Management Description: Got a seat quickly both sessions. The guy who called my name was very congenial and seemed genuinely glad to have me playing. The rest of management was not particularly friendly but not rude either. More just perfunctory.
Comps Rating: 3
Comps Description: Didn't ask about comps. They have a wheel to spin for cracked aces. Prizes ranged from something like $20-50, plus a few "double," "triple," and "extra spin" spaces. IIRC, there was also some kind of high hand jackpot.
