Tropicana Player Room Review

Feels like your home game
05/30/08, Player: romo9mvp

Total Rating: 2.65

Room Quality Rating: 3
Room Quality Description: The room at the Trop is in tough shape - obvious wear and tear on the tables. The atmosphere probably feels alot like your home game - the waiting list is not displayed anywhere, the available tables (and there are often alot of them) are written on a whiteboard. Not exactly the Bellagio. Then again, I loved it. You know exactly what you're getting, not pretenses there at all.

Competition Rating: 3
Competition Description: Competition varies - the tournaments draw some good players (even at the midnight tourney) and the 1/2 NL cash games seemed to have alot of knowledgeable players (granted, they couldn't stop talking about their hands and their strategies, so thanks for the free info).

Dealer Rating: 1
Dealer Description: Dealers were bad. There were three. One had no personality, one was rude, and the other seemed to run everything there (see Management Rating below).

Cocktail Rating: 4
Cocktail Description: Cocktail service is consistent and accurate - no complaints there. A little slow to make change perhaps, but they keep everyone's drink holder full at the tables.

Management Rating: 2
Management Description: The management at the Trop truly is non-existent. It was VERY distracting during our midnight tourney to have our dealer telling the poker room manager what the dealer shift rotation was going to be. The poker room manager is a swell guy, but basically clueless. Only thing keeping this from the worst possible rating is that is seemed any questions were answered quickly and accurately. Other than that, there virtually is no management.

Comps Rating: 2
Comps Description: Not aware of any comps (didn't stay there, only played for 2 hours in cash games and seperately for 5 hours in a couple of tourneys). I heard disparaging comments from other players about the comps (like the management, there doesn't seem to be any). Didn't see anyone having their card scanned - in any case, it would have felt as out of place as asking for a player's card at your buddie's Thursday night game. All that said, I did enjoy the room. It's relaxing poker and a beatable room.
