Paris Player Room Review
I'd like the room better if we could just get rid of the people in it!
06/09/07, Player: Sam Diamond
Total Rating: 3.50
Room Quality Rating: 4
Room Quality Description: The room looks great!! It's obviously half of the sports book converted to be a poker room, but it's removed from the rest of the casino floor. They scored big points for me with bathrooms located RIGHT NEXT to the poker area without any indication to the rest of the casino that they are there, but if you're in the poker room, you can't miss 'em! Very nice way to take care of their players.
Of course, you can still hear the occassional Can-Can blaring from the other side of the bathrooms (No, I'm not kidding... a Can-Can... It is Paris, after all).
Another plus (being located next to the sports book) is the 'No Cell Phone' policy which is great when they actually enforce it.
One negative (part of what kept me from giving it an Excellent rating): Since it was part of the sports book and they want to overwhelm you with visual stimulation, there are about six projection screens showing ESPN and whatever else happens to be on... That's GREAT if you're facing that way. If you're on the other side of the table, you have a fantastic view of the bathrooms... That's about it.
There are only two screens devoted to poker (tournament info, etc) and those are small flat screens way over in the corner near the registration desk. If you're not sitting right in front of them, you can't see anything.
Competition Rating: 3
Competition Description: Don't come here looking to catch a glimpse of big names (I only get there a couple times a year and I'd hate for you to be disappointed!!). Most of my table seemed to be tourists with a couple of locals. Obviously internet players and people looking to test their home-game skills. Some very good, some absolutely horrible that THINK they're good. It's about what you'd expect.
Dealer Rating: 2
Dealer Description: Dealers were light on personality and even less impressive on confidence.
One dealer 'David' seemed to be used to dealing Limit games and couldn't change gears into "No Limit" mode. He also allowed one player to intimidate him into declaring a misdeal, yet when the same situation arose with the next dealer, the rule for how to handle the situation was interpreted differently. Inconsistency is not good, gentlemen!! Next, we'll have a straight beating a flush with the right dealer.
I'm no dealer and I know these guys have a lot to keep up with, but the 2nd dealer even had trouble calculating a side pot!!
Cocktail Rating: 4
Cocktail Description: The bar is right there so the service is fairly quick. The servers aren't bad to look at, either!!
Management Rating: 4
Management Description: Management was friendly, but I'm holding off on the Excellent rating because the "No Cell Phone" rule was enforced at their discretion. One guy jabbered away right in front of the manager for a few minutes and the manager didn't even blink. A few minutes later, another guy at the table answers his phone enough to say "Honey, I can't talk now, I'm getting ready to start a tournament..." and the manager was right over there telling him he needed to get off the phone. On the upside, he handled it well. Firm, but not confrontational.
Comps Rating: 3
Comps Description: I only stuck around long enough for a tournament. I'll give them a neutral rating on the Comps.
