Summary: The World Series of Poker main event begins today. There will be more than 6,000 players in the tournament, creating a prize pool of over $60 million. If you’re coming to Vegas during the next week, you should stop by the Rio to check out the action.
Content: So, who’s gonna be the next poker rock star? All it takes to become an instant celebrity is a victory at this year’s 2005 World Series of Poker main event. This is the granddaddy of poker championships, and this year’s winner is going to haul off more than $7.5 million in cold cash.
The $10,000 buy-in WSOP main event is something every poker player should see at least once in person. And, if you can’t afford to play in the event, then you can at least be part of the atmosphere if you stop by.
The first seven days of the event will be played at the Rio hotel, and the last two days of the tournament will be played at Binion’s. If you wait until the last two days, hoping to catch a glimpse of the final table, you might miss the action entirely, because there will be an insanely long line of people waiting their turn to step into the room where the final-table is located.
Even the early rounds of the tournament at the Rio will be a zoo, but if you’re in town, I do recommend stopping by. You might just meet the next poker rock star.
If you can’t make it in person, then Cardplayer.com and Pokerpages.com have excellent coverage of the tournament.
