Summary: A few weeks ago I received an e-mail from David Riedisser, tournament director at the Caesars Palace poker room. David said there were some exciting things cooking at the Caesars Palace poker room and he kindly extended an invitation for lunch to discuss the enhancements.
Content: This afternoon I had lunch with David Riedisser, the tournament director of the Caesars Palace poker room. David invited me over for a visit because he wanted to share some new information about his poker room and he wanted to provide All Vegas Poker with a few updates about the daily poker tournaments at Caesars Palace.
I should preface this article by saying that I had not been to the Caesars Palace poker room since last March when I covered the National Heads-up Poker Championship. That was nearly nine months ago. Why so long? Because I’m mostly a cash game player, and although Caesars Palace is one of the largest, and most comfortable poker rooms in Las Vegas, my regular hot spots during the past year or so have been MGM, Venetian, and Wynn. That said, if I played poker tournaments more regularly, then I would definitely visit the poker room at Caesars Palace a lot more often.
Poker tournaments are clearly the strength of the Caesars Palace poker room. For starters, Caesars Palace has the best poker tournament facilities in Las Vegas bar none. It has an entire 33 table room dedicated to tournament action. But just as important, management at Caesars Palace has worked hard to craft an excellent tournament schedule that offers a lot of value for poker tournament players. The Caesars Palace poker tournaments have affordable buy-ins, long levels, decent starting chips, and a relatively competitive house rake. So if you’re looking for poker tournaments, which many players are, you can not go wrong choosing Caesars Palace.
At the beginning of our meeting David made me smile when he shared a little secret; he visits All Vegas Poker daily to read the poker room reviews and trip reports. But that isn't the best part. What really made me gleam was when David said that it's not just the reports concerning Caesars Palace that he monitors. David also checks up on his competitors, by reading the reviews of other leading poker rooms in Vegas. While it wasn’t the first time I have heard this from a poker room manager, this feedback always makes me proud. It means that All Vegas Poker is improving the card room scene here. Influential people are definitely paying attention.
David provided me with a lot of updates about his poker room, and he gave me plenty of time to snap some new photographs. But the most valuable thing to come from our meeting was a new relationship for reliable and up-to-date information. The toughest part about running AVP is keeping the most accurate information online. Fortunately, All Vegas Poker now has a new contact at another leading Las Vegas poker room, and one who recognizes the value of what we’re building here.
Below are the updates for the Caesars Palace poker room.
Caesars Palace cash game updates:
- High hand jackpot (funded by $1 jackpot drop on cash games).
- A few aesthetic changes inside the cash game area of the poker room really improve the atmosphere, including:
o high quality sports-themed prints on walls
o bookshelf separates limit and no limit games
o more seating for waiting players (and significant others)
o other decorative items dress up poker room (flower vases, dark wood armoires, magazine racks and tables at entrance).
- It feels less like a ‘banquet hall’ and more like a poker room.
- All cash games run nine handed now.
- Two cash game tables removed (28 cash games tables remaining).
- Limit vs No Limit games split about 30% (limit) / 70% (NL).
- Weekends usually have 15-18 cash game tables going during prime time.
- Rake reduced to 5% on $2/5 NL game.
- $5/10 NL is the biggest game that regularly goes on weekends.
Caesars Palace poker tournament updates:
- “Second Chance” tournament jackpot: It works like this - at the end of each poker tournament there is now a drawing to win a progressive jackpot. To be eligible you must have busted out of the most recent poker tournament, and be seated in any cash game. Funded by $1 jackpot drop from cash games.
- Ladies only poker tournament offered now weekly (Tuesday evenings). For the first few weeks Caesars Palace is sweetening the prize pool by giving away free spa treatments and other goodies to tournament winners.
- Valentine’s Day poker tournament for “couples” special event on Feb. 11, 2007.
- New tournament cage under construction inside poker tournament room (will be used for registration during special tournament events).
- Sit N Go tournaments sometimes offered ($60 and $120 buy-ins). On average SNGs go only 2x per day however.
- Noon tourney averages 90 people across all days, and draws up to 130 players on weekends.
- 7:00 PM tourney averages 60 players across all days (50 players weekdays, 70 players weekends).
- 11:00 PM tourney averages 55 players across all days.
- Tues., Wed., and Thurs. are slowest tournament days. Sometimes Monday tournaments can be as large as weekend tournaments however.
- Possible 3:30 PM afternoon poker tournament might be offered on weekends in the near future.
- Possible satellite to 2007 National Heads Up Championship might be offered in near future.
Thanks for lunch David, and thanks for reaching out.
And if anyone has questions about the poker room at Caesars Palace, please feel free to post them in our new discussion forum.
